  • Our History

The organization was originally established as the Oromocto Sheltered Workshop (OSW). In 1978, Muriel Poole, a resident of Burton, approached Social Services with a vision: to create a day program for adults with intellectual disabilities. With her advocacy and determination, this much-needed program became a reality.

Initially, the program served six women and focused on developing social and life skills, while also providing opportunities for community involvement through various outings.

As the program grew and evolved, so did its mission and identity. In 1982, OSW officially changed its name to the Oromocto Training & Employment Centre (OTEC) and became an incorporated organization. This marked the beginning of a new chapter - one focused not only on personal development but also on creating meaningful employment opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities.

  • Collaborative Approach

We believe that meaningful support comes from working together. That’s why we partner with the important people and organizations in each participant’s life to make sure their needs are met in a well-rounded, consistent way.

    We collaborate with:

    • Family members and caregivers
    • Healthcare and service providers
    • Community organizations
    • Employers and support networks
  • Inclusion & Diversity

At OTEC, we are proud to foster a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

We celebrate diversity across all backgrounds, identities, and abilities — including race, gender, sexual orientation, and more.
